Creating Great Memories

What do you do when you have a win as a dad? Celebrate!

My brother and his family, along with my mother, are in town to visit this week. So, as a huge family, we rented a 15-passenger van and spent a day at Disney World, near Orlando, Florida.

It was a great day! My kids had a blast, and so did my two nephews. And the adults had a great time as well. I call that a dadhood win!

We created memories that our kids will cherish for a long time. Here are a few that I will hold dear:

  • My oldest daughter walking with me through the park to check in for a fast pass at Space Mountain, and then dancing at the live DJ booth.
  • My four year old running across the Tomorrowland Plaza to catch up to me so he could hold my hand.
  • Riding with my oldest son on his first roller coaster ride ever. On the next ride, he stated he wanted to ride in the cart with me again.
  • Watching the joy on my youngest daughter’s face and hearing her giggle as we rode Aladdin’s Carpet.
  • When my middle daughter flashed the family “I love you” symbol to me across the Swiss Family Robinson tree house.

Our day was a great day! It was a long one; we left our home around 8:00 in the morning and didn’t get home to almost 2:00 am. But it was well worth the exhaustion and the expense. Is it necessary to spend money like that to generate great memories with our kids? Of course not! But occasionally, doing something extravagant like this helps make some great memories, both for our children and for ourselves.

So, dads, do something with your kids that they will remember. Go create some special memories. It doesn’t matter if it costs you a lot, or if it’s completely free. Just go do it. Your kids will love it!

Be deliberate, Dad!
