One of the hardest things to do sometimes is pray with my kids.
And I don’t understand this. It should be one of the easiest things to do.
I’m not referring to praying with my kids before a meal, or praying with my kids together at bedtime.
I’m talking about praying with my kids, for my kids.
But here’s the amazing thing about this kind of prayer. When I pray with my kids, for my kids, they see just how much I love them and an concerned for them. They see how I care about the things that they care about. They see how I prioritize them, because what is important to them is important to me.
And then we join together in prayer for those things.

This deepens their faith.
But more often, I think it deepens my faith.
For example, my daughter has been homeschooled her entire life. This year, as a freshman, she is in public school. Her desire to fit in, to make friends, to do well with her studies, and maintain a healthy self-esteem through all of that… All these things are very important to her.
From my point of view, they seem to be minor, because I know that these things don’t necessarily stay big things, especially as she moves into college and into the rest of her life. But the fact that I care about these things for her show her that I care about her.
Or take my son. he’s a nine year old boy. He’s learning some hard things in life right now. Things like what happens when he shows disrespect to his mother. He has lost privileges several times over the past few months. But when I take time to pray with him about this, he ends up in tears. He is super-sensitive, and he knows through our prayers together that I care about him and want the best for him.
Taking the time to pray with each of my kids, for them, makes huge strides in communicating my love, my care.
But most importantly, it demonstrates God’s love for them in ways too amazing for words.
So, dads, what’s keeping you? Go pray with your kids, for your kids!
