Hey Dads! I’m glad you dropped in for Episode 18 of the DadCast!

Summer has been a crazy series of events this year! From personal events and happenings, to family stuff, to ministry opportunities, the last few months have been a whirlwind of activity.

Earlier this year, we started a series here on The DadCast, based on the book How God Makes Men, by Patrick Morley. Over the next few episodes, we’re going to continue to look at the lives of some people from the Old and New Testaments, and learn some of the lessons that they can teach us about biblical manhood.

Our roles as men, husbands, and fathers is completely dependent upon allowing God to transform us into the man he desires us to be.

In this episode of The DadCast, we will take a look at the life of Moses, seeing just how God does about changing our character to reflect his.

So listen up, and hear what God wants to teach us through this amazing life. That’s the main idea behind Episode 18 of The DadCast!

How To Be A Great Dad

Moses was the one God had chosen to lead the nation of Israel out of Egypt, out of slavery. But when he thought he was ready, he wasn’t. He had to be prepared. God had to work on his character before he could use him completely.

Here is a brief summary of Moses’ life:

  • Placed in a basket and sent down river.
  • Found by Pharaoh’s daughter, and raised by her in Pharaoh’s household for 40 years.
  • Felt God’s call to save his people. Killed an Egyptian who was abusing a fellow Israelite.
  • Flees Egypt.
  • Lived in Midian, got married, and had kids. This wilderness period of his life lasts another 40 years.
  • Saw God in the Burning Bush.
  • Gives God a series of excuses, senses his own inadequacy.
  • God sends him back to Egypt.
  • After 10 plagues, God secures Israel’s freedom, Moses leads them out of the land.
  • Leads them through the journey to the Promised Land for the next 40 years.

When Joseph led his family into Egypt, the point was to save Israel. Now, Moses leads them out. Again, the point is to save Israel.

Before God could use Moses to save Israel, he had to transform his character. When Moses though he was ready for the job, God saw that he wasn’t. But when God had prepared him, Moses felt his own inadequacy. What God had created in Moses’ life was humility.

The Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.  So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.  Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.  Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.” – Exodus 3:7-10
