We have a pretty heavy responsibility as dads. Our kids look up to us for leadership and guidance, for love and a sense of belonging, and for so much more.
Our kids need us in so many different ways. But perhaps one of the best things we can do for our children is to be a positive influence in their lives consistently.

My son has recently discovered the joys of a couple of new xbox games. And he wants to play them with me, of all people. That has me so excited that I have to permit it frequently. I know, all too soon, playing games with dad will be something to avoid.
While we play, I’m talking with him, laughing with him, joking around. We are having a great time together, creating memories for both of us.
And in the process, I’m being a positive influence in his life.
And that’s what I want to talk about in Episode 7 of The DadCast!

Here are the six ways we talked about on how to exercise influence in the lives of your kids. Help your kids…
- Know themselves
- Develop their gifts
- Find their passion
- Value people
- Learn perseverance
- Pursue excellence
Show Your Kids Today That You Love Them!
How do we do this? How can we encourage our kids in these ways? I think it’s fairly simple. Watch your kids. See what they like. Pay attention to what they do well, and what they really love to do. Point out and praise them when they show value to others, or stick to something that they may not want to stick to. Encourage them to stand up for their beliefs, and to stay strong in their convictions. Allow them to choose to pursue excellence in the things that they do. Give them permission to fail, because we all do, but at the same time, encourage them to give their best no matter what.
Above all…. Model these things for your kids.
