Hey Dads!
Thanks for stopping by and checking in for Episode 4 of the DadCast.
In this episode of The DadCast, I want to talk about a simple thing thing that you can do that will impact your kids tremendously.
Take walks.
I want to take a brief look at two different aspects of this simple concept of taking a walk. I want to discuss the benefits of walking together as a family. And I want to discuss the benefits of taking a walk with just your wife, and how that impacts your family life.
Taking a walk is a simple thing to do. And the benefits are incredible. First of all, there is a health benefit to this. But more important are the relational benefits you’ll see from implementing this on a regular basis.
And that’s what Episode 4 of The DadCast is all about!

DadCast Encouragement
One of the easiest ways to spend time building your relationships with your kids is to take walks with them.
The benefits are incredible, and numerous, including heath and fitness benefits. But, in my opinion, the relational benefits far outweigh them all. The time spent with one another while walking around your neighborhood is an excellent way to spend some quality time with your children.
After you hear some of my experiences, and how taking a walk with your family can help you be a better dad, you might want to think about giving this easy activity a try.

How To Be A Great Dad!
Benefits of walking with your wife
- It shows your kids that you love your wife. Kids are more secure when they know your marriage is solid. When you take the time to focus on your wife, that communicates volumes to your children.
- It shows your wife that you love her. She needs to feel your love and support as much, and more, than your kids do.
- It allows you both to have a few moments of adult conversation without dozens of interruptions. If you have younger children, you both need some adult conversation occasionally.
- It communicates your priorities. When you intentionally take the time spend with your wife, your kids are reminded that she is one of your topmost priorities. That consistent example will help them to establish the right priorities in their families some day too.
Benefits of walking with your kids or family
- Your kids will crave this incredible time with dad!
- You can get to know things about your kids that you might not have fully realized yet.
- It’s fun!
- You’re building memories.
- You’re setting a precedent for their own families someday.
So Dads, go take a walk..
Show Your Kids Today That You Love Them!
But how? Maybe you’re busy. Maybe it’s dark when you get home. Maybe your kids would rather sit in front of the television. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Find a time and schedule it. At least on your own calendar.
- It may have to be the weekend, when you have more time. Or you may have to rearrange your day so you can leave work early.
- But it will only happen when you make it a priority.
- It doesn’t have to be a long time. 15 to 30 minutes is a great place to start.
- Let your kids and wife know in advance that Tuesday evening is a walk night. That way they won’t be surprised when you pull this on them. They will have been expecting it.
- Enjoy yourself. Don’t stress. Leave the deep topics of conversation at home for another time. Have fun.
- Walk slow, especially if you have younger kids. A leisurely pace makes for comfortableness, both in the walk and in the relational time.
- Just do it. This isn’t something that will cost you much, if anything. So just do it.
